The World Airline Road Race Festival 2010 will be located around
The
Royal Victoria Dock in the redeveloped Docklands area of East London.
Built in 1855 The Royal Victoria Dock is one of three docks
constituting The Royal Docks. To the east lie the Royal Albert Dock and
King George V Dock and between these two has been constructed London City
Airport. Further to the west, towards the centre of London, lie the West
India Docks which now houses the office blocks and dockside cafes of Canary
Wharf - London's biggest urban rebuild.
-
The 5k and 10k races will start and finish at the ExCeL exhibition and
conference centre and
will take in a scenic course around The Royal Victoria Dock. With the
exception of the Friday evening T Shirt Party all festival venues
are nearby.
-
The T Shirt Party will be held in Leadenhall Market a short train ride away in
the old City.
-
The ExCeL exhibition and
conference centre is London's leading conference and events venue.
-
The site is served by the Docklands Light Railway which has frequent trains to London
City Airport and to Tower Hill, right by the Tower of London; and
with connections onto London Underground services for all other London locations
including Heathrow Airport. Gatwick Airport can be reached via Victoria
Station and Stansted Airport via Liverpool Street Station.
-
Just to the North is Stratford, site for the London 2012 Olympic Park.
Within 2010 international trains from the Channel Tunnel are expected to stop
at Stratford on their way to London St. Pancras Station. ExCeL itself will be a
2012 Olympic and Paralympic
venue - featuring Boxing, Fencing and other events.
