The T Shirt Party will be held at Leadenhall Market in the old City of London.
In the early Roman settlement of Londinium the area formed part of the Forum (the
roman
market). In 1321 the area was again recorded as a market and the site grow
in importance after Richard Whittington acquired it in 1411 (Richard Whittington is more commonly known as Dick Whittington, three times Lord Mayor
of London). In 1666 the Great Fire of London started nearby and
destroyed part of the market. It was rebuilt and then in 1881
the old stone buildings were replaced with the current wrought iron and glass
structures. The market has featured in films including "Tomb Raider" (Lara Croft rides her motorbike through the venue),
as Diagon Alley in Harry Potter and the Heath Ledger film "Imagination of Dr.
Parnassus". The 2012 London Olympics Marathon is also expected to run next
to, and perhaps even through, where we will be partying!
More important for our party, there is a pub at each end of the main arcade and numerous restaurants and bars serving food. All of these listed below will be open during the T Shirt Party. Between them they have capacity for over 600 dinners but they will need to know how many of us will be eating that evening so that they can provide enough staff. Please therefore make advanced reservations with the restaurant of your choice and particularly if you want to have a team table with 8 or more diners. Some restaurants will be offering special deals for diners with reservations as well as faster service.
