Tag Line: | From Sea to Sky / Entre Ciel et Mer (Between Heaven and Sea) |
Course and Conditions: | Starting and finishing at the Oak Bay Marina both courses followed
the coast north along suburban roads before a turnaround. Sunny, once the sun was up, and the temperature was a mild 15degrees with a slight headwind against you in the first half of each run.
5K: | Starting around 08:00. The 5k was rumored to be long by as much as
half a km. Emergency roadworks resulted in one short stretch without road surface but this was only the width of a carriageway.
10k: |
The 10k started at 06:35, in the dark, but within ten minutes there
was sufficient light to avoid any issues. The 10k turnaround was at a road triangle around a green with a distinct hill. There was a 25m climb up with the half-way drinks station at the top of the hill followed immediately by a steep descent - too steep to keep the water in your cups! No reason to think that the distance was not accurate (the GPS watch used for the course map always measures courses short, hence the "Lap" km markers). Suburban it may have been but some competitors spotted deer close to the course.
Statistics: |
47 Airlines (including aviation related companies +"non-airline category"), 770 total finishers, 674 5k finishers, 247 10k finishers, 151 ran both races.
